Richard is a sociologist of science, technology and medicine based in the Society and Ethics Research Group at the Wellcome Genome Campus. He has particular expertise in qualitative research methods, including focus groups, interviews and ethnographic approaches. Richard’s research examines social and ethical questions associated with biomedical science and technology, including biotechnologies, biomarker diagnostics and pharmaceuticals. Over the last few years it has concentrated on social and ethical questions associated with big data and changing approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. He is PI on a Wellcome Trust-funded project examining ethical challenges associated with data-driven approaches to detection and diagnosis in dementia.
