Dr. Pruitt leads the Information Engineering Branch (IEB) of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the National Library of Medicine, NIH. IEB develops and maintains several biomedical data repositories and services including ClinicalTrials.gov, dbGaP, BLAST, GenBank, PubMed, and PubMed Central. Dr. Pruitt initiated and until recently, led, NCBI’s reference sequence (RefSeq) project to provide consistently annotated genomes, transcripts, and proteins for all domains of life. Dr. Pruitt earned a B.S. in Biology from Syracuse University and a Ph.D. in Genetics and Development from Cornell University. She undertook two post-doctoral positions and started a small software company before joining NCBI to lead the RefSeq project.
