Ray is a Director of Standardization at Philips Healthcare. He has over 25 years of experience in research and standardization of healthcare and consumer technologies. Ray began his career in Philips as a researcher where he worked for 10 years, investigating decision support in the healthcare domain and eventually security and privacy issues. He started participating in copy and content protection standards at this time and thus began his career in standardization. Ray moved out of research and began working on healthcare interoperability standards such as the wireless medical body area network standard IEEE 802.15.4j, which provides support for collecting wireless sensor data, and on the IEEE 11073 Personal Health Devices standard, which fosters the exchange of measurement data. Currently Ray is participating in the HL7 Clinical Genomics working group where he has participated in the development of a genomics reporting implementation guide and on support for genomics applications in the emerging HL7 FHIR standard. Ray is also participating in the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health, where he has been a member since its inception, through contributions to the Regulatory and Ethics Work Stream and the development of an IP policy.
