As Beacon evolves, the need to extend its utility beyond discovery of individual variations or samples in biomedical repositories to discovery of data relevant for a given use case by accessing resources' metadata — i.e. catalogues describing the resources content — is becoming increasingly apparent. In this session, we'll explore the potential of enhancing Beacon to support the discovery of metadata across federated catalogs. Inspired by real-world use cases and metadata model ideas (beyond the "experiment metadata" modelling efforts in GA4GH), the session will discuss how a metadata-focused Beacon could meet these emerging demands. We will examine challenges, benefits, and practical approaches for integrating metadata discovery capabilities into the Beacon framework.
