Name
Data passports and eIDAS: extending data access beyond research
Date & Time
Thursday, April 16, 2026, 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM
Description

The EU is rolling out Digital Identity Wallets which allow all citizens to manage their identity and data. These can be used by Healthcare professionals to access patient data, researchers to access controlled access datasets, and citizens to manage their consents. An example is the GDI requirement to interoperate with the European Health Data Spaces (EHDS), and the associated citizen portal. Implementations of putting a v1.2 passport inside an eWallet exist, but these are not efficient or necessary.

This workshop will start with the problem statement (e.g. from GDI or another Driver Project), the state of the art with VCs globally, and then a discussion on existing and any other attributes required, with perhaps a post-workshop questionnaire. This would give a clear set of requirements and help map existing v2.0 passports to VCs in a constant and standardised way.
