Name
Towards Passport / AAI 2.0 - Data Access Pathways for All Policies
Date & Time
Thursday, April 16, 2026, 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM
Description

Join the Data Security Workstream and fellow technical implementers to define the next generation of GA4GH Authentication and Authorization Infrastructure (AAI) and Passport. The current v1.2 standards have successfully enabled federated interoperability for controlled-access data. Now, as the ecosystem expands, we must evolve.

Together, we will tackle critical roadmap priorities such as: designing task-specific tokens to eliminate passport bloat, allowing the use of identity-only passports, supporting new visa types including data passports and potentially AI agent passports, supporting implementers and implementations across private, public and government sectors, and embracing modern standards like Verifiable Credentials. Your expertise is crucial for shaping a scalable and robust framework for the future of data access.

The session's outcome will be a collaboratively updated Passport/AAI roadmap and a cohesive, community-driven vision for the next major release of these foundational security standards.
