Get ready for a night of discovery, celebration, and scientific wonders at this year's "Discovery After Dark" event, brought to you by the Broad Discovery Center and Operation Outbreak! Join us on Thursday, October 23rd from 6:00 to 8:00 pm for an exclusive, after-hours, free, museum event.
Embrace the night with an atmosphere of excitement and curiosity as you explore the museum's galleries and engage with interactive displays that spark the imagination. At this year’s Discovery After Dark event, we invite you to participate in our in-person outbreak simulation, during which a fictional pathogen will spread anonymously via Bluetooth across participating phones. During and after the simulation, attendees can dive into the simulation results in our Outbreak Visualizer (see example here).
But that's not all! We've prepared a fantastic lineup of entertainment with DJ Backspin, Operation Outbreak and delights to make this event truly unforgettable.
Space is limited. Pre-registration is required and recommended as last year's event filled up.
What’s Operation Outbreak?
Operation Outbreak, an initiative of the Sabeti Lab of the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, is an experiential education program that empowers students and society to positively impact the trajectory of outbreaks—big and small.
If you would like to participate in this optional opportunity, download the Operation Outbreak mobile app (iOS and Android) before 6 pm Thursday, October 23. A code to join the simulation will be forthcoming in a future email and at the event.
Recommended Age & Requirements
This event is recommended for Middle School ages and above.
Please note: a personal smartphone is required to participate in the simulation.
