Soo-Yong Shin is currently the director of the technological Lab and CPO of Kakao Health in Korea. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Seoul National University, Korea, and has a diverse experience in academia, industry, and hospitals for almost 20 years. Soo-Yong was an assistant/associate professor in the department of digital health, Sungkyunkwan Unversity, and an assistant professor in the department of computer engineering, Kyunghee Unversity, Korea. He developed a genomics analysis service in Samsung SDS. And he played an important role in developing and operating the hospital information system of Seoul National University Hospital, Asan Medical Center, and Samsung Medical Center in Korea as a professor or director of the centers in the hospitals.

He is interested in how to standardize, integrate, protect, and analyze healthcare data including genomics data. He published about 180 peer-reviewed academic papers, 6 books, and 16 patents. He was also a project leader of 4 international standards including 3 genomics standards. He is the HoD (Head of Delegation) of Korea of ISO/TC 215/SC 1 Genomics informatics and serves as a convenor-support of working group 1 of SC1.
