Ariel Pradipta is the senior research fellow in Genomik Solidaritas Indonesia (GSI) Lab, which is a social entrepreneurship in Indonesia with the vision to bring inspiration and innovation in genomics. GSI Lab envisions democratization of access to biomolecular tests for everyone. GSI Lab application of high throughput, agile, genomic sequencing provided major contribution to the national SARS-CoV-2 genomic surveillance as part of pandemic management coordinated by the government. Ariel trained as a medical doctor, during which he noticed the widening gap in developing countries between biomolecular research capabilities and medical practice applications. Through his Masters of Research from Newcastle University and a Ph.D in Medical Science from Osaka University, he gathered research experiences in host immunology, infectious diseases and genetic engineering. With the swift uptake of genomics-based tests globally, he recognized the need for innovative ways to merge both clinical and biomolecular research in Indonesia. He is currently nurturing collaborations between research institutions and clinical practitioners to ensure both sides sustainably mature in a rapid and responsible manner.
