Jeannie Marie Paterson is a Professor of Consumer Protection and Technology Law and founding Director of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Ethics at the University of Melbourne. Jeannie’s current work focuses on the ethical and regulatory challenges of AI, including concerns around misrepresentation, misinformation and deep fake fraud. Jeannie’s work is frequently cited by courts, governments, and regulators in law-making and reform contexts. Jeannie is a member of the Cth Government’s temporary expert advisory committee on AI regulation (2024). Jeannie also has sustained experience working as a consultant for firms, government and not for profits. She holds a current legal practising certificate. She regularly discusses her research on emerging technologies, ethics, AI and regulatory design issues with media. She is a fellow of the Australian Academy of Law.
