Dr. Lerner-Ellis is a clinical molecular geneticist who serves as Director and Head of the Advanced Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory at Mount Sinai Hospital, Sinai Health; Associate Professor at the University of Toronto in the department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology and Clinician Scientist at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Medical Genetics & Genomics.
In addition to his core interests in molecular diagnostics, a major aim of his research is to integrate genome sequencing into the general practice of medicine. His research aims to improve our understanding of the relationship between DNA variants and disease using technologies for data sharing. He is currently working to facilitate data sharing in Canada and internationally through projects like the All for One Precision Health Initiative, the Pan-Canadian Genome Library, the Canadian Genomic Data Commons, the Ontario Cancer Research Network, Bridge2AI and others.
