Building on the participatory discussion at GA4GH April Connect 2026 in Montreal, this session moves from identifying impact categories to choosing the ones worth measuring. Since Montreal, our draft indicator table has been further developed to distinguish between readily measurable indicators, indicators requiring additional time or resources, and areas where impact is meaningful but not currently measurable with sufficient reliability.

This session will invite participants to prioritise elements that should be featured in a GA4GH draft guidance entitled “Measuring the impact of REWS Work Stream through nuanced indicators”. The aim is a manageable set of impact categories and indicators that reflect what the Regulatory & Ethics Work Stream (REWS) distinctively contributes, including policy influence, cross-Work-Stream integration, Driver Project uptake, responsible data sharing, equity and global capacity, clinical translation, community building, and anticipatory governance. Participants will help flesh out selected metrics, clarify potential data sources, and identify which indicators could be incorporated into a GA4GH metrics dashboard versus those requiring separate qualitative evaluation. The goal is to leave the session with the core elements of a focused, feasible, and community validated REWS impact measurement framework. This document is the first stone of a REWS toolkit which will eventually include a more general, publishable, guidance for measuring the impact of ELSI research.
