Professor Bilal A Mateen is a physician-by-training and currently serves as PATH's inaugural Chief AI Officer, responsible for developing and implementing the organisation's AI strategy. Prior to this, Bilal served as Executive Director of Digital Square, where he supported 33 LMIC ministries of health to use digital technologies to close the global health equity gap. Over the course of his career, he has been the principal investigator on more than $250 million in grants and contracts focused on digital health transformation and AI in low-resource settings. In recognition of his expertise, he has held several prestigious fellowships, including at the Alan Turing Institute, and was recently appointed to the United Nations' first Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence.
