Abstract
The need was identified for a uniform and consistent way for citing GA4GH specs, which emerged in different forums. Hence, a programme was formed under the Technical Alignment Sub-committee (TASC) to resolve this need by collaborating and approving a centralised system to mint DOIs. Since its inception, GA4GH has released a suite of technical standards enabling secure access of genomic data across distributed systems and networks, including API specifications and specifications for managing researcher identities and permissions. Each standard is designed to be interoperable with one another, such that multiple standards can be used in concert to enable complex researcher workflows involving federated compute and analysis. To extend discoverability and be able to be cited by the scientific community, GA4GH needs the ability to mint DOIs of the technical standards created under GA4GH. Using Crossref's infrastructure, we are establishing a standardised process to mint DOIs for GA4GH artefacts.
