Abstract
Creates tools to communicate who can access datasets for which purposes. Helps confirm user identity and match researcher type to data permissions.
The Data Use & Researcher Identities (DURI) Work Stream aims to provide digital solutions for communicating how data sets can be used for research, and by whom. Patients and research participants expect their personal data to stay private and be shared with researchers only under terms to which they consented. Researchers want to simplify their access to this data through a portable electronic identity that travels around the world, verifying who they are and what kind of research they do.
DURI works toward both these goals, producing standards that allow identified researchers different levels of access to protected datasets. DURI designs can be implemented in a variety of global data sharing environments.
