The GEM Japan (GEnome Medical alliance Japan) is the first GA4GH Driver Project in Asia, proposed by AMED and started in March, 2019. GEM Japan is now contributing in GA4GH Work Streams, including the one for Data Use & Researcher Identities (DURI). To facilitate the wider genome data-sharing, we started to localize the DURI scheme into our local research community in Japan. Here we report our progress;
[1] DUO in Japanese To implement the Data Use Ontology (DUO) in Japan, we localized and translated the DUO codes of release 2020-02-03 into Japanese. The translated "duo_japanese" data will be incorporated as a Japanese label of each corresponding class in DUO. Note that this is the first attempt of multilingualization of DUO codes. To be used widely in Japan , we are considering another new DUO code for scientific-purpose-use (by both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations).
[2] MRCG in Japanese As GA4GH Machine-Readable Consent Guidance (MRCG) is a very important clue for genome data-sharing, we also localized and translated the guideline [approved on 6th July, 2020] into Japanese.
[3] DUO pictogram In order to present the DUO codes in a clear and memorable way in various user-interfaces including search results, we designed pictograms to evoke the meanings of DUO codes.
We introduced our proposals for those topics to the DURI board for the review and will be published when they are approved. Prior to starting the activity, we held the local workshop named "AMED-GA4GH GEM Japan workshop 2020 Sendai" in Feb., 2020 to discuss and share the progress of our local activities [https://sites.google.com/view/gem-j-workshop-2020-sendai/home].
