Dr. Amel Ghouila supports the coordination of the Gates Foundation Ki GC program in Africa, India and Brazil, a program aiming at building Data science capacities while leveraging existing data to answer complex public health problems in LMICs.

Amel has a background in computer sciences with a PhD in Bioinformatics from the LIRMM, Montpellier. She previously worked for the pan-African bioinformatics network H3ABioNet supporting researchers and their projects while developing bioinformatics and Data Science capacity throughout Africa.
Amel is an Open Science and Open Education advocate who dedicated time for designing curricula, organizing training, and leading engaging discussions. She was awarded an Open Science Fellowship from the Mozilla Foundation and was nominated as one of the “50 People Who Are Making the Internet a Better Place.” She is also involved in a number of international efforts to address ethical issues and challenges posed by digital technologies in public health.

Amel is the Vice President for the African Society of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (ASBCB) and the founder of Technovation Tunisia, the non-profit dedicated to teaching young girls coding and entrepreneurship skills while addressing challenges in their communities as part of the global Technovation challenge program.
