Name
Preventing group harms in genomic research — brainstorming session.
Description
Most research ethics frameworks focus on potential harms to participants of research studies. There is, however, increasing focus on potential harms to those not directly involved in research, but who might nonetheless be harmed indirectly by the research because of scientific claims made about the groups those individuals are members of. This session is meant for dynamic brainstorming about the 2024-2025 activities of the REWS Preventing Group Harms subgroup, which proposes to develop tools to assist in making the genomic research environment less vulnerable to occurrences of group harms.
