Name
Next steps on the use of Verifiable Credentials (models and protocols) for improving Passports
Description

One year ago, the Data Security Work Stream, in collaboration with ISO/TC 215/SC 1 (Genomics Informatics), started a new activity around Verifiable Credentials (VC). The final objective is to improve GA4GH's Passports and visas using technologies such as OID4VC (OpenID for VC) or the W3C's VC Data Model. A previous session on this topic during April Connect 2025 made considerable advancement.

The objective of this new session is to go one step forward involving Driver Projects and related standardisation groups. From this, the need for new, or improved, specifications will be decided and started. To achieve these goals, presentations and discussion points will include proposals, alternatives, use cases, etc. As indicated, the intended outcome is to kick-off new specific standards that take benefit of the mentioned technologies and improve the use of Passport visas.
