Jakris Eu-ahsunthornwattana, MD, PhD, is a Lecturer at the Department of Community Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, and the current President of the Thai Society of Human Genetics. He graduated with MD (first class honors) from Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, Bankgok; MSc in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine; and PhD in Statistical Genetics from the Institute of Genetic Medicine, Newcastle University, UK. He worked in the Division of Medical Genetics and Molecular Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital for over a decade before moving to the Department of Community Medicine. His research interests are in statistical genetics, genetic epidemiology and complex disease genetics, which naturally resulted in his being involved all of Thailand’s national genomic projects. He is a founding member of the Thai Society of Human Genetics, and has recently been elected president after having served as vice-president twice. He is also a founding member and secretary of Thailand’s Association of Medical Genetics and Genomics, a member of the Medical Genetics section of the Genetics Society of Thailand, and the non-communicable disease project lead of the Genomics Thailand programme.
