Marko Malenic is a research software engineer at the University of Melbourne Collaborative Centre for Genomic Cancer Medicine. His work focuses on building tools for storing, sharing and accessing large-scale genomic data. As part of GA4GH, he works on developing implementations of standards for data management. In collaboration with Roman Valls Guimera, he co-maintains open-source tools including htsget-rs and Crypt4GH-rust, enabling efficient and secure data transfer. These tools are applied in Australia through the GUARDIANS project, and internationally with organisations such as the Genomic Data Infrastructure, where they support national infrastructure projects in other communities. His interests are in building open, community-driven software, where real-world implementations of GA4GH standards can interoperate for effective genomic data access.
