Dr. Jorge Meléndez Zajgla is a Medical Doctor graduated with honors from Universidad Anáhuac and holds a MSc and ScD from UNAM. With over 30 years of experience in cancer genomics research, he has published more than 145 articles in high-impact journals accumulating over 17,000 citations. He currently serves as Director General of the Instituto Nacional de Medicina Genómica (INMEGEN) and is a Full Professor of the Specialty in Precision Cancer Medicine at UNAM.

Dr. Meléndez Zajgla is a Full Member of the National Academy of Medicine and the Mexican Academy of Sciences, and actively participates in international collaborations as a member of the Scientific Steering Committee of the International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC) and the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Group of the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health. He is also an editor for several journals including Scientific Reports, Clinical and Translational Oncology, and Frontiers in Genetics.

His research focuses on cancer molecular biology and genomics, with pioneering contributions to apoptosis studies, genomic tools development, and CRISPR/Cas-based diagnostic techniques. He has been recognized with multiple awards including the Marcos Moshinsky Chair and is currently a Level 3 researcher in Mexico's National System of Researchers (SNI).
