Abstract
The proliferation of Trusted Research Environments (TREs) with jurisdiction-specific policies impedes interoperable research and consistent data governance. The Open TRE Suite, a new GA4GH Implementation Forum project, addresses this challenge by developing the technical foundations for secure, federated research, designed to align with policy frameworks like the Five Safes and EOSC-ENTRUST.

Building on initial proof-of-concept work, the project will deliver a structured security framework, an extensible Software Development Kit (SDK), and a reference implementation. The framework’s modular architecture will support pluggable trust-enhancing technologies, including Homomorphic Encryption, Differential Privacy, Crypt4GH, and Attested TLS, while exploring the GA4GH Tool Registry Service (TRS) as a trust anchor. Project outcomes will be disseminated through a white paper and a peer-reviewed journal article.

By integrating core GA4GH standards (e.g., DRS, TES, WES, Passports), our goal is to provide a user-friendly, GA4GH-native toolkit that simplifies deploying interoperable TRE technical infrastructures, thereby fostering a robust and secure ecosystem for multi-cloud research collaboration.
