Moving from Trauma to Hope - Building an Anti-racist Organization

Dr. Nicole Christian-Brathwaite

This is an opportunity to gain greater insight into why racism is so damaging and how both we as individuals and the Broad as a whole can become more trauma informed and anti-racist. We will examine how toxic stress can lead people to exist in a survival state (fight/flight/freeze), rather than in a thriving state. Existing in a heightened state of stress, secondary to racist experiences in the workplace, leads to reduced staff productivity and concentration, greater sick days, more frequent employee turnover and an overall unwelcoming work environment. This workshop will identify ways that individuals can lessen the negative impact of racial trauma and how the Broad can create a trauma-sensitive and anti-racist culture.
