Dr. Alice B. Popejoy is a public health geneticist working at the intersections of evolutionary genomics, public health, statistical and population genetics, and the ethical, legal, and social implications (ELSI) of genomics research. Dr. Popejoy received her PhD in Public Health Genetics and a Certificate in Statistical Genetics from the University of Washington and she received a double B.A. in Biology and French from Hamilton College. Dr. Popejoy is currently a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Biomedical Data Science in the School of Medicine at Stanford University and is an affiliate scholar of the Stanford Center for Biomedical Ethics. Her trans-disciplinary research thrives where scientific innovation and knowledge generation meet the need for evidence-driven culture change, such as methods development for the inclusive classification of diverse populations in genomics research and clinical genetics. Specializing in issues surrounding race, ethnicity, ancestry and genomics, Dr. Popejoy is Co-Chair of the Ancestry & Diversity Working Group of the Clinical Genome Resource (ClinGen), Chair of the ClinGen Data Access, Protection, and Confidentiality Working Group, and liaison to the Clinical Sequencing Evidence-generating Research (CSER) consortium. She also works with the Pathways to American Indian and Alaska Native Wellness (PAAW) Community Action Board to understand Native American perspectives on genomics and precision medicine.
