Belonging@Broad: Together Symposium
Thursday, October 1 and Tuesday, October 20
The Belonging@Broad: Together Symposium will focus on inclusion, diversity, equity and allyship at Broad and how we can impact (and are impacted by) the broader scientific community. Our speakers will discuss intersectionality in the workplace; anti-racism policies and practices; and how to create a more inclusive Broad culture, both in the short- and longer-term.
We’ve organized the symposium sessions along three levels of analysis to illustrate the multifaceted perspectives on inclusion, diversity and equity.
- Individual level. Our mindset, experiences and context shape how we perceive, think and behave. We will explore how we can gain new perspectives, insights and skills to better understand and connect across a diversity of experiences.
- Community level. The ways we communicate with and relate to each other individually and as a group. We will examine how we can build our capacity for deep listening, being open-minded, and showing empathy as a means to strengthen relationships and belonging for everyone.
- System level. We live in interlocking systems of power that reinforce inequities and racism. We will focus on how we can gain awareness of the systems we operate in and how we can start to create systemic change to promote inclusion, equity and thriving for all at Broad as well as positively affect change in our partner institutions and the larger scientific and academic fields within which we operate.
Registration for Belonging@Broad: Together is open to all members of the Broad community, including Broad staff, affiliates, associate and institute members, and members of their labs. All are welcome to attend the keynote lectures, and workshop registration will be capped at 40 attendees to allow for productive discussions.
